I started taking on my first client work all the way back in law school. Although initially I didn't see design as a potential career for me, a few years and many successful projects later it just became the obvious choice. Being a designer is quite similar in some aspects to being an attorney in the end - you're working for clients who come to you with their various problems and you're solving them by offering tailored solutions using your knowledge and expertise.
